Charlie
motion graphics
This piece was initially created for a class project focusing on 3D space and 2D photographs.
It was awarded a Pinnacle Award of excellence in 2017.
It began with a family photo of my grandfather Charlie Hodder, who was a fisherman, leaving his home of Ireland’s Eye to serve in the Navy during WWII.
It opens on a typical sight of Newfoundlanders on a boat, panning to reveal my grandfather in his uniform standing beneath the Red Ensign flag, with the sounds of waves in the background, and the traditional “Let me fish off Cape St. Mary’s” playing in the background, and the clip fades with the lyric “let me be a man and take it, when my dory fails to make it.”
